Lecane bulla Gosse 1851
Lecane bulla, dorsoventral view. Species with egg-shaped lorica and V-shaped margin of the anterior part of the lorica. See also >>>> Lecane cornuta (1)

Lecane bulla, the toes are half-merged into one (1)

Lecane bulla; dead female specimen with resting egg. All observations of this species (and some other Lecane species as well) show that the resting egg always remains in the female and can only be released by the decay of the lorica. This also means that females of Lecane bulla produce only one single resting egg during their lifespan. Dispersion of this species is therefore only possible by parthenogenetic reproduction.(2)
