Synchaeta tremula O.F.Mueller 1786
Synchaeta tremula: swimming specimen from (4). Species with flat apical field. Focus plane on the dorsal side with conspicuous red double eyespot. The arrows point to the inner two of the total four well-developed coronal styles .

Synchaeta tremula: same specimen from (4); dorsoventral view. Focus plane on the outer two of the total four well-developed coronal styles (arrows). The arrowheads point to the lateral antennae near the base of the foot.

Synchaeta tremula: swimming specimen from (1). In contrast to Synchaeta oblonga (lateral antennae on posterior third of the trunk) the lateral antennae are near the base of the foot. This specimen is characterized by the distinct foot with 2 conical toes.

Synchaeta tremula: swimming specimen from (2). Focal plane on the two red frontal eyespots.

Synchaeta tremula: specimen from (2) , slightly compressed. Two images from the same specimen, different focus planes. Upper image: Focus plane on two red frontal eyespots. Nogrady/ Segers (2002) mention that (only?) marine or brackish specimens of the genus Synchaeta may have such frontal eyespots, but the specimens here are from fresh water. Lower image: focus plane on cervical eyespot. (2)

Synchaeta tremula: specimen from (2), anterior part. Focal plane on the two red frontal eyespots (upper image); Detail (lower image).

Synchaeta tremula: specimen from (4), lateral view of the right side of a specimen from (4). Focus plane on the peripheral muscles and the right lateral antenna (arrowhead) with connecting nerve cells.

Synchaeta tremula: crop of the above image. The arrowhead points to the right lateral antenna. (4)

Synchaeta tremula: lateral antenna (detail of the above). The sensory cilia at the top of the cell are out of focus in this image. (4)

Synchaeta tremula: lateral antenna with sensory cilia of another specimen. (4)

Synchaeta tremula: trophi of specimen from (2)

Synchaeta tremula: specimen from (1), with yellowish integument.

Synchaeta tremula together with Synchaeta pectinata
Synchaeta tremula, male specimen, lateral view. (3)
